Discussion:
Adding custom views/maps to GLOBAL.MPT
(too old to reply)

I am having problems adding custom views/maps to
GLOBAL.MPT for use in other projects.

I am using Organizer to add the custom views to GLOBAL.MPT
(Highlight the customized view in the project, make sure
the Copy arrows are going the correct way (from project to
GLOBAL), etc.) and then copying from GLOBAL.MPT to the new
project. But when I apply the custom view in the new
project, it does not have all the changes I made.

When I open the original project in which I created the
custom view, everything looks fine.

What step have I missed?

Hi Bob,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :-)

It sounds like you have more than one Global.mpt. Make a new trial change
(say a new custom view) and use Organizer to transfer it to the Global.mpt.
Search for all instances, and note the one with the latest date. Now rename
them all, close Project down and reopen which will create a default Global
mpt, and close down. Search again for Global.mpt to find out where it is.
Now look for your renamed file you noted with the latest date, and rename it
back to Global.mpt and move it to overwrite the default.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :-))

Mike,

Thanks for your suggestion. Blake's response seems to
have resolved my problem.

A View refers to a Table, a Filter (and in Project 2002 and greater, a
Group). My guess is that you didn't copy the Table along with the View. To
see which Table this View is using go to View-More Views-Edit. Copy this too
and you should be fine.
